Modelling non-Gaussianity from foreground contaminants

چکیده

We introduce a general class of models for charaterizing the non-Gaussian properties of foreground contaminants in the cosmic microwave background with view towards the removal of the non-primordial non-Gaussian signal from the primordial one. This is important not only for treating temperature maps but also for characterizing the nature and origin of the primordial cosmological perturbations and thus establishing a theory of the early universe. 4

Auto and cross correlation of phases of the whole-sky CMB and foreground maps from the 1-year WMAP data

The issue of non-Gaussianity is not only related to distinguishing the theories of the origin of primordial fluctuations, but also crucial for the determination of cosmological parameters in the framework of inflation paradigm. We present an advenced method for testing non-Gaussianity on the whole-sky CMB anisotropies. This method is based on the Kuiper’s statistic to probe the two-dimensional ...

A new approach to probing primordial non-Gaussianity

We address the dual challenge of estimating deviations from Gaussianity arising in models of the early Universe, whilst retaining information necessary to assess whether a detection of nonGaussianity is primordial. We do this by constructing a new statistic, the bispectrum-related power spectrum, which is constructed from a map of the cosmic microwave background. The estimator is optimized for ...

Non-Gaussianity due to Possible Residual Foreground Signals in WMAP 1st-year Data Using Spherical Wavelet Approaches

We perform multi-scale non-Gaussianity detection and localization to the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) 1st-year data in both wavelet and real spaces. Such an analysis is facilitated by spherical wavelet transform and inverse transform techniques developed by the YAWtb team. Skewness and kurtosis as test statistics are calculated on scales from about 1 to 30 on the sky as well as t...

New approaches to probing Minkowski functionals

We generalize the concept of the ordinary skew-spectrum to probe the effect of non-Gaussianity on the morphology of cosmic microwave background (CMB) maps in several domains: in real space (where they are commonly known as cumulant-correlators), and in harmonic and needlet bases. The essential aim is to retain more information than normally contained in these statistics, in order to assist in d...
